Manovikas Kendra started its journey in a very modest way in 1974 on 28th January (Basant Panchami Day), with Dr. (Smt.) Sharada Fatehpuria as its Founder. It is a non-governmental and not-for-profit organization registered as a Society under West Bengal Societies Registration Act. It was one of the foremost non-govt. organizations in the country to start training and research of individuals with special needs.

The institute has managed to emerge as a prominent nerve-centre in the country with multidimensional activities to ensure that the potential that lies in each individual with special needs is developed to the fullest, in order to bring them to the mainstream of the society.

With this goal in mind, team Manovikas Kendra has been working tirelessly for almost 40 years. In 2006, the institute was the recipient of the National Award for its outstanding contribution for the welfare of persons with disabilities.

At present, Manovikas Kendra is involved in the areas of assessment, diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, inclusive education, human resource development and bio-medical research, to improve the quality of life for persons with special needs. We also provide scaffolding services to children with specific learning difficulties in the mainstream schools.
